FEATURE: STEPHEN’S TRIPPIN’ EVO VIII

“I wanted an Evo ever since I first went for a drive in one. This was before I had a licence. It put a smile on my face as soon as I hopped in.” Well, first impressions last, and in Stephen’s case his first experience set the wheels in motion and it wasn’t long before he was looking for one of his own. “I loved the body lines and wide guards, and the fact that it was AWD turbo. I bought mine before I had my full licence. I had to wait two months until I could drive it legally. It was the longest wait of my life!”

EVENT: IMPORT MONSTER SAU NATIONALS

We’re always in the mood for a day at the circuit and a few weeks ago Wakefield Park hosted the Import Monster SAU Nationals, so we went down for a look. Now with a name like that, it’s fair to assume that the whole field of competitors would be nothing but a sea of Skylines, but that would be wrong. The line up included a bunch of brutal GT-Rs, but the gates were also open to whoever wanted to take them on. Records were on the line, and at the end of the day it was the most unlikely marque that took away top honours.

Steve Ka’s GT-R is a familiar face around these parts, but it’s ever-changing underneath. The new wheels look the business and there’s serious stuff happening to get them turning even quicker.

SPEED CHALLENGER: THE BENSOPRA 380SX

It was about three months ago, on my last trip down to the Kansai area of Japan, that I realized I was standing in front of THE car of 2013. As Ueta-san of BenSopra ran the plans he had for his 180SX-based project by me, it quickly became obvious that there wasn’t going to be one single car at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon that would come close to matching the sheer awesomeness of this machine. Needless to say, I was right. BenSopra did it last year with their GT-R, this year it’s the turn of the Nardó Special 380SX.
