The car that we are going to present has a
pretty long history. Its bonds with Kazama Auto Japan are very strong
and are not just related to the car’s exterior. The car was purchased
directly from Kazama Promode kit,and then imported to Denmark to be used
as Jocks Bilimport.dk showcar until 2 years ago, when the company
wanted to enter and take over the drift scene.
This Silvia is prepared by Jocks Bilimport
and driven by Jacob Hansen, Jocks Drift Team’s captain. 2011 was a
fierce year for the car, driver and the whole team. It took the 2nd
place in the JDM All Stars event in France and a 12th place during the IDS European championship and a remarkable 1st place in the Scandinavian Drift Series.
Now lets move on to the car itself.
The
Kazama Promode kit really transforms the lines of the car. The wider
and sleeker body helps to enhance the aerodynamic shape of the car and
leaves room for wider tyres. The kit consists of front and rear
fenders, bumpers and side skirts. The shape of the front fenders is what
sets the car apart form everything else. The OEM bonnet is replaced by a
Dmax D1 spec carbon one for
better heat dissipation and weight reduction. The JDM madness continues
to the Ganador carbon mirrors, the Final Konnexion Dspec carbon spoiler
and the Dmax LED rear lights. The windows are 4mm Polycarbonate items. a
custom Jocks Bilimport vinyl complements and blend everything together.
The engine
is almost entirely made of Tomei parts, a natural choice as Jocks
Bilimport is their danish distributor. The engine is stroked to 2.2 lt
with a a Forged 8 counter weight Crankshaft, Forged Piston Kit, Forged
H-Beam Connecting Rods. The bearing set is sourced from ACL ‘s part catalogue. At the bottom of the block a Trust
large capacity oil pan with baffle plates prevents oil starvation when
the car is moving sideways. Moving to the head, a set of Tomei Procam
intake 260 solid type intake and exhaust camshafts complement the block.
Under them there are type-A springs, solid pivots and shims made by
(you guessesd it…) Tomei. The head and the sort-block are
connected sealed by a 1.5mm Tomei headgasket with 87,00mm bore
holes. Everything is bolted together by an ARP head stud kit.
This monster is cooled by a KOYO Aluminium Radiator with twin electric fans and a Trust 19 row oil cooler with a 7” electric fan. For the management, an AEM standalone ECU coupled to a 3,5 bar map sensor and an UEGO Wideband gauge were used.
After reinforcing the engine it was the turbo‘s
time. They used a quick spooling Tomei ARMS M8270 turbo without
focusing too much on outright power figures. After the air is
compressed by the Tomei snail, it is cooled by a Trust intercooler
before moving to the intake manifold. Boost is limited by a Trust
profec-B-II Boost controller. The Fuel is contained by a JAZ 5 gallon
Fuel cell. The fuel pump is made by Aeromotive and the filter is an Earls
unit. All the fuel lines are steel braided for increased safety and end
to a Circuit sports hi-flow fuel rail which feeds 4 HKS 740cc Sidefeed
injectors. The fuel pressure is regulated by a Tomei type L fuel
pressure regulator. The air/fuel mixture is ignited by a
gorgeous Splitfire ignition system. Lastly there is a NX NOS system
giving an extra100 hp on request… this feels almost like being
rear-ended at 20km\h! A Tomei ExPreme exhaust manifold and a free
flowing 3” stainless exhaust let the exhaust gasses meet the atmosphere,
for the happiness of all the ambientalists in the world.
The power is transmitted to the gearbox by an Exedy twin plate carbon clutch. PPG
are known to make some of the toughest gear kits and Jocks Bilimport
are one of their distributors…. you do the math: they intalled one of
their kits inside a Skyline R33 GTS-T transmission case and topped it
with an Ikeya Formula
Sequential shifter. After the gearbox, there is a 900 hp proof 1-piece
aluminium driveshaf that joints to Nismo 2way LSD and a 4.6:1 final
drive that spin the rear wheels through 600 hp-rated axles.
We
showed you what brings this car up to speed, now lets move to what
makes it turn! By now we suppose you understood that only the best parts
were choosen for thise beauty. The same happened for the handling.
A host of suspension parts come from one of the best Japanese
suspension manufacturers, mostly known for their Time Attack builds: Moonface.
They are coilovers and both the swaybars. Adjustable camber, toe and
caster arms, plus the front brace are from Nissan’s own Motorsports
department a.k.a. NISMO. Jocks Bilimport intalled the Driftworks
Race Hub Knuckles both front and rear and offset rack spacers
to increase the steering angle. Moreover, Kazama SR20 reinforced engine
mounts and a Circuit Racing engine torque damper are installed to keep
everything in-line under extreme loads.
The
Silvia sits on Rota Torque Drift 9.5x17” +12 Offset and lives on a diet
of Federal SS595 235/40/17 tyres. The owners assured us she eats a lot
of them to stay healthy…
The interior
is spartan. Two Cobra Sebring Pro GRP GT bucket seats and 6-point
Sabelt harnesses keep the driver and any fearless passenger in place.
The Cusco
bolt in roll cage was modified with additional door bars. The driver
can easily monitor the engine’s health thanks to Defi gauges (oil temp,
oil press. and boost). Another exclussive JDM item is the KEY`s Suede
deep dish steering wheel.
This
year Jocks Bilimport.dk will attend all the JDM All Stars series events
and we wish them the best. The love that went into this
build alone should grant them great results, add the amazing driver to
the mix and you understand why missing a single race for you would be a
sin! We leave you with an amazing video from the two Jocks Bilimport.dk
drift machines.
